
Who We Are
Centro de Información is a place where our Latino community has felt safe, understood, and supported for more than 50 years. We are a not-for-profit social services agency that provides bilingual advocacy at our locations in Elgin, Carpentersville, and Hanover Park for more than 15,000 immigrants every year. Centro serves mostly low-income, Hispanic immigrants residing in the greater Fox Valley area, but we welcome clients of any nationality from surrounding counties and states.
Centro de Información helped serve a total of 6,694 clients in the 2022 fiscal year.
(July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022)
Centro has assisted nearly 120 clients to become new US citizens from May 2022 to April 2023.
Served a total of 115 parents in parent training classes and parent coaching.
Distributed food from our emergency pantry to a ttal of 3256 individuals from 23 different communities.

Sue Schulz
AAUW Elgin Branch
It has been an honor for Sue to promote the mission of Centro and has served as a board member since
the fall of 2020. Currently serving as Program Committee Chair. She has been a volunteer with Centro for
over 8 years, primarily helping in the area of Citizenship and the Centro Gala.
Sue has thirty-six years in the field of education primarily with immigrants and in diverse Chicago
communities. Experience ranging from preschool to adult education with work environments including
corporations, private schools, non-profit community centers, and the community college system.
Responsibilities range from classroom instructor, teacher trainer, curriculum and program development
and implementation, union president, and administration of schools and various programs.
Since retiring, Sue has volunteered in many local Elgin organizations on many committees primarily
focused on developing and encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has a small business
offering garden design/education and travels extensively.
Benjamin Aquino
PNC Bank
Benjamin Aquino joined Centro De Informacion Board in 2021.
Ben is the Business Banker Sales Manager for PNC Bank.
He has over 22 years of banking experience which has sharpened his ability to build and harvest relationships in the community we serve.
Maria Borrero
City of Elgin
María Borrero has been working as a Community Outreach Specialist in the Elgin Police Department for over 2 years. She has over 10 years of experience in the area of Community Outreach, which includes being a member of the Bilingual Family School Liaison team for School District 300 where she helped families of students with disabilities and bilingual needs. Before working for District 300 she served as a Program Coordinator for the Barrio Arts Program at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in Chicago. María was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She moved to Elgin in 2008 and graduated from Elgin Community College in 2011. She earned her BA in Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago and finished her Minor in Spanish Literature at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain. She is currently on the advisory committee for the Elgin Police Department Explorers Post. In addition to Centro’s Board of Directors, she also serves as a board member for Food for Greater Elgin, and Elgin Hispanic Network.
