Public Benefits Caseworker

Summary:

To provide bilingual and bicultural public benefit application assistance and community resource information to individuals and families, and support community outreach events to help promote Centro’s services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with community outreach events to raise awareness of Centro’s services.

  • Meet with Centro clients to assess needs, program eligibility, provide referrals to area resources, assist them in filling out benefits applications (such as SNAP, IFRP, Medicaid, All Kids and more) and advocate on their behalf to resolve presenting issues.

  • Stay up-to-date on benefit eligibility criteria, application forms, enrollment procedures and documentation requirements.

  • Use relationship skills to empower the individuals’ ability to respond to issues.

  • Alleviate crises by responding with appropriate and relevant community resource referrals and intervention.

  • Maintain up-to-date information regarding client and services provided in the agency database.

  • Assist with Public Benefits Team and overall Centro strategic goals.

  • Attend agency-wide staff meetings, trainings and collaboration meetings as requested by management.

  • Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to Centro’s mission and values.

  • Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.

  • One year experience working or volunteering in a non-profit human services agency preferred.

  • Bilingual Spanish / English (writing, speaking, reading) and bicultural

  • General knowledge of community resources and the Latino community.

  • Strong communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and can maintain detailed, accurate and confidential records.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

  • Experience with Salesforce and a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm office hours
